Advanced Search may be used to build a query to deliver refined search results. The advanced search window allows users to specify search criteria which builds a query expressed in a URL, displayed at the bottom of the advanced search window. For example, in Advanced Search, a query for term "water" and category of "Data" generates the following URL query: https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/items?q=water&filter=browseCategory%3DData. Users may also build the URL queries manually.
For data release products in ScienceBase, here are instructions on how to build queries that filter by science center, mission area, and keyword.
Hint: to exclude specific elements, use ! (exclamation point). For example, to find the term water, but eliminate records in the "Data" category, the URL query is: https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/items?q=water&filter=browseCategory!%3DData. The ! is inserted after BrowseCategory to eliminate the Data Category from search results.
