NV5 Geospatial, in collaboration with EDCON-PRJ, Inc. acquired high-precision airborne magnetic and radiometric data over southwestern New Mexico. Survey flight-lines were flown in an east-west direction and are spaced at 200 meters. North-south tie lines are spaced at 2000 meters. The survey contained 142,673 line-kms (88,650 miles) of data and covered an area of over 25,900 sq. km (10,000 sq miles). Survey flights are flown with a high-performance fixed wing plane capable of a 20% climb/dive slope. The terrain clearance was 120 meters over low-relief areas, 150-meters over populated areas, (to comply with FAA regulations), and 200 meters over the mountainous portions of the survey. The majority of the survey is...
Rapid population growth and declining annual recharge to aquifers in the upper Santa Cruz basin area of southern Arizona, has increased the demand for additional groundwater resources. This demand is predicted to escalate in the future due to higher temperatures, longer droughts, less aquifer recharge, and decreased river and stream base flow. We conducted geologic studies to help evaluate and better understand groundwater resources in the basin. Results of these studies are presented in this report, which summarizes the basin geologic framework and hydrogeology, and presents a 3-D hydrogeologic model for the Rio Rico and Nogales 7.5' quadrangles. Three major hydrogeologic units are displayed in the 3-D model; a...

In response to Executive Order 13817 of December 20, 2017, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) coordinated with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to identify 35 nonfuel minerals or mineral materials considered critical to the economic and national security of the United States (U.S.). Acquiring information on possible domestic sources of these critical minerals is the basis of the USGS Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI). The program, which partners the USGS with State Geological Surveys, federal agencies, and the private sector, aims to collect new geological, geophysical, and topographic (lidar) data in key areas of the U.S. to stimulate mineral exploration and production of critical minerals. The first...

This digital publication contains the database, base maps, and style files used to build the geologic map of the upper Santa Cruz River basin in southern Arizona published in U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3490 (Page and others, 2023). Shapefiles are also included for the user’s convenience. In the database, there are polygon features outlining the map units and data sources; line features delineating contacts, faults, and other geologic lines such as dikes, anticlines, and synclines; point features marking where there are age or structural data; and nonspatial tables in which the description of map units, data sources, and glossary information can be found. The database follows the geologic...

ScienceBase brings together the best information it can find about USGS researchers and offices to show connections to publications, projects, and data. We are still working to improve this process and information is by no means complete. If you don't see everything you know is associated with you, a colleague, or your office, please be patient while we work to connect the dots. Feel free to contact sciencebase@usgs.gov.
