This data release presents beach topography and nearshore bathymetry data from repeated surveys in northern Monterey Bay, California to document changes in shoreline position and coastal morphology as they relate to episodic (storms), seasonal, and interannual and longer (e.g. El Niño) processes. The ongoing monitoring program was initiated in October 2014 with semi-annual surveys performed in late summer (September or October) and Spring (March). Nearshore bathymetry and topography data were collected along a series of shore-perpendicular transects spaced primarily at 50-250 m intervals between Santa Cruz and Moss Landing, California (fig. 1). The transects were located along sandy stretches of the coastline...

This USGS data release presents data collected during surveys of nearshore bathymetry and beach topography from northern Monterey Bay, California. Survey operations were conducted between October 20 and October 24, 2014 (USGS Field Activity Number 2014-676-FA). Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs), each equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Topography data were collected using an all-terrain vehicle equipped with a GNSS receiver and on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Positions of the survey platforms were referenced to a GNSS base station with known horizontal and vertical coordinates. Depths...

This part of the USGS data release presents elevation data for the Little Holland Tract in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, California. During May and June of 2015, a team of scientists from the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center (PCMSC) conducted multiple surveys (USGS Field Activity 2015-642-FA) to collect topographic and bathymetric data in Little Holland Tract, located in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta between Liberty Island and the Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel. Topographic mapping was conducted during low tide using a GPS backpack platform consisting of survey grade Trimble R10 and R7 global navigation satellite system (GNSS) recievers with Zephyr 2 antennas. Orthometric elevations...

This dataset consists of short-term (less than 37 years) shoreline change rates for the exposed coast of the north coast of Alaska from Icy Cape to Cape Prince of Wales. Rate calculations were computed within a GIS using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) version 4.4, an ArcGIS extension developed by the U.S. Geological Survey. Rates of shoreline change were calculated using an end point rate-of-change (epr) method based on available shoreline data between 1980 and 2016. A reference baseline was used as the originating point for the orthogonal transects cast by the DSAS software. The transects intersect each shoreline establishing measurement points, which are then used to calculate shoreline change rates.

This USGS data release presents data collected during surveys of nearshore bathymetry and beach topography from northern Monterey Bay, California. Survey operations were conducted between March 7 and March 14, 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-620-FA). Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs), each equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Topography data were collected using an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) equipped with a GNSS receiver and on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. A terrestrial lidar scanner was used to obtain high-resolution topography data along portions of the survey area inaccessible...

ScienceBase brings together the best information it can find about USGS researchers and offices to show connections to publications, projects, and data. We are still working to improve this process and information is by no means complete. If you don't see everything you know is associated with you, a colleague, or your office, please be patient while we work to connect the dots. Feel free to contact sciencebase@usgs.gov.
