The zip files attached below include the spatial data and symbology layers used to create the PAD-US 3.0 web services found on the PAD-US Viewer. These can be used to recreate the web services in applications that require the underlying spatial data. See the PAD-US Web Services page for direct access to service links and more information.

The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) version 3.0 dataset was clipped to the 12 unified regional boundaries for the Department of the Interior (DOI) to provide data downloads for each of the regions. The unified regional boundaries are primarily based on a science-based approach to promote management efficiencies. The unified regions provide better management on an ecosystem basis to include critical components such as wildlife corridors, watersheds, and trail systems. For more information about the DOI regional boundaries see: https://www.doi.gov/employees/reorg/unified-regional-boundaries.

The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) version 3.0 dataset was clipped to 56 State and Territorial boundaries to provide data downloads for areas of interest. The Census Bureau is the national steward for legally defined geographic area boundaries for State and Equivalent areas. The national sub-state geography geodatabase is updated annually and contains multiple layers reflecting selected geography, including state name and jurisdiction; this dataset is translated by USGS and used to standardize "State-Name" and improve boundary quality as a common reference for agencies contributing data for PAD-US. For more information about Census State boundaries see: https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/tiger-geodatabase-file.html....

ScienceBase brings together the best information it can find about USGS researchers and offices to show connections to publications, projects, and data. We are still working to improve this process and information is by no means complete. If you don't see everything you know is associated with you, a colleague, or your office, please be patient while we work to connect the dots. Feel free to contact sciencebase@usgs.gov.
