Executive SummaryIn 2015 the Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative (Desert LCC) made significant progress toward developing a climate smart Landscape Conservation Design for their geography. They developed a methodology for engaging interested partners in conservation planning, hosted two Landscape Conservation Design workshops (one in the U.S. and one in Mexico), developed an understanding of the highest impact pressures and stressors affecting focal ecosystems (springs, including aquatic and riparian resources, streams, including aquatic and riparian resources, and grasslands and shrublands), conducted outreach across the Desert LCC geography to familiarize partners with the Landscape Conservation Design approach...

A combination of citizen science inventories and expert assessments will be used to collect critical baseline information on known spring and seep resources using the Spring Ecosystem Inventory and Assessment Protocols and adapting them as needed for the unique arid Sky Island ecosystems. The assessment will collect information on channel morphology, riparian and wetland vegetation, water quality, aquatic macroinvertebrates, and wildlife. This information will be combined with historic data from cooperating agencies (Pima County, Santa Cruz County, USFS, NPA, USGS, USFWS, BLM, and AGFD) in a regional, on-line database to provide a landscape level context for managing resources, which was previously unavailable due...

The Transboundary Madrean Watersheds Landscape Conservation Design (LCD) was developed as part of an effort initiated by the Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative (Desert LCC). The Desert LCC was a program of the Bureau of Reclamation and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to address large-scale landscape conservation in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This collaborative effort brought together managers, stakeholders, communities, and others to work toward sustaining resilient landscapes capable of responding to environmental challenges and supporting natural and cultural values for current and future generations. The Madrean Watersheds LCD area spans the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora,...

The Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative (Desert LCC) is designing a process that will: produce spatially explicit data and information about focal resources, chosen by the Desert LCC partners; seek to understand the effects of climate change and other landscape stressors on natural resources; integrate social and economic information to understand what these resources might look like in the future; and look at specific focal areas to develop collaborative adaptation responses that are useful and implementable by our partners.Where this work is being done: Dos Rios Eastern Mojave Desert Madrean Watersheds In the face of rapid climatic shifts, natural resource managers and conservation practitioners...
