This landcover raster was generated through a Random Forest predictive model developed in R using a combination of image-derived and ancillary variables, and field-derived training points grouped into 18 classes. Overall accuracy, generated internally through bootstrapping, was 75.5%. A series of post-modeling steps brought the final number of land cover classes to 28.

These data cover all Wilderness Areas designated by Congress in Montana. They are extracted from the statewide land ownership and managed areas layer maintained by the MTNHP.

These data cover the National Park Service (NPS) units in Montana. They are extracted from the statewide land ownership and managed areas layer maintained by the MTNHP. The names of the NPS units have been provided in the NAME attribute field. Privately owned areas inside NPS units have a NAME of "inholding".

These data cover designated National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) in Montana. They are extracted from the statewide land ownership and managed areas layer maintained by the MTNHP. Only the outer Refuge boundary is included here. Many refuges contain "inholdings" that are not owned by the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS); but these inholdings have been deleted from this data set to simplify the representation of these areas. The name of each Refuge is provided in the NAME attribute field.

This region-wide coordinated bird monitoring program, supported by state, federal, tribal, nongovernmental organizations, and two statewide bird conservation partnerships, is designed to provide spatially-referenced baseline data for science-based biological planning and conservation design for the Great Northern LCC and its partners that is directly comparable with other landscapes and BCRs. We are requesting a third year of funding to continue sampling in BCR10 Montana and Idaho to enhance our ability to make robust inference to bird populations on grassland, shrublands, and riparian systems. These data currently are being used by project partners to develop spatially-explicit models that will allow assessment...
