This dataset includes Snow Free Date(sfdy) for northern Alaska in GeoTiff format, covering the years 1980-2012. Snow Free Date is defined as day of the end of the core snow period(day of year). The core snow season is defined to be the longest period of continuous snow cover in each year. The dataset was generated by the Arctic LCC SNOWDATA: Snow Datasets for Arctic Terrestrial Applications project.“Day-of-year” (doy) output is expressed in Ordinal dates (“1” on 1 January, and “365” on 31 December). Dates have not been corrected for leap years. This output is appropriate for display purposes, as it is readily interpreted as calendar day of year. It is not recommended as input for analysis, as it may produce incorrect...

The Arctic LCC has developed a Project Tracking System(PTS) to electronically manage the metadata and data associated with projects. The PTS is used to track projects throughout all stages of development, from receipt of proposals through delivery of final products. The PTS allows staff to access and manage project data using a web browser and is developed and designed to operate on open source software. The Arctic LCC is making the open source code for the PTS available to anyone wishing to develop their own method of tracking projects.

The USGS and Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Staff operate and maintain a streamgage at Hulahula River near Kaktovik, Alaska. Data from this station is necessary to complement glacier mass-balance studies and provide information necessary to project stream flow regimes under various scenarios of climate change. This project includes operation, acquiring real-time data, analysis of the data, and internet access. The gauge continues to operate as of 2017.

This dataset includes First Snow Date(fsdy) for northern Alaska in GeoTiff format, covering the years 1980-2012. First Snow Date is defined as day of first snow occurrence during the year(day of year). It is not recommended as input for analysis, as it may produce incorrect statistics; “day-of-simulation” (dos) files should be used for that purpose.“Day-of-year”...

This dataset includes Last Snow Date(lsdy) for northern Alaska in GeoTiff format, covering the years 1980-2012. Last Snow Date is defined as day of last snow occurrence during the year(day of year). The dataset was generated by the Arctic LCC SNOWDATA: Snow Datasets for Arctic Terrestrial Applications project.“Day-of-year” (doy) output is expressed in Ordinal dates (“1” on 1 January, and “365” on 31 December). ScienceBase brings together the best information it can find about USGS researchers and offices to show connections to publications, projects, and data. We are still working to improve this process and information is by no means complete. If you don't see everything you know is associated with you, a colleague, or your office, please be patient while we work to connect the dots. Feel free to contact sciencebase@usgs.gov.
