As persuasive communication is among the least intrusive of all management tools, this thesis proposes that persuasive messaging based upon the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) could be used to promote low-impact ORV use in the Yukon's backcountry. Information was collected through a content analysis of three documents that focused on the use of ORVs in Yukon. Information was gathered, analyzed and used to create four persuasive messages. Messages were then presented to focus groups and tested for effectiveness and adherence to the theoretical framework used. Focus group data suggests some message content was likely processed with a bias and primarily reinforced strong initial attitudes towards unrestrictive ORV...

Results-based/adaptive management approaches to planning and managing resources in British Columbia are replacing zoning/prescription based approaches. This thesis expands on the adaptive management concept mentioned in the natural gas pre-tenure plans (PTPs) in the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA). A six-step adaptive management framework (AMF) is developed and tested by comparing its steps to those taken to vary an existing zoning/prescription based pretenure plan. The results support recommendations for the use of the AMF for updating existing and preparing new pre-tenure plans in the M-KMA area. The AMF developed, refined and recommended in this thesis is expected to lead to PTPs that will: (1) Be based...
