FY2019Multijurisdictional, international landscape with many shared priorities but lacks landscape (inter-jurisdictional) perspective. Landscape conservation design process will provide landscape context and future scenarios to support coordinated conservation investment.FY2020Entering Phase 2 of a 3-year project, a Landscape Conservation Design (LCD) will deliver a set of strategies that the Crown Managers Partnership and dozens of stakeholders can deploy to achieve desired ecological conditions based on defined, measurable resource outcomes across the Crown of the Continent ecosystem. LCD is a holistic, participatory process bringing stakeholders together to define a desired future for the Crown landscape and...

Colorados Front Range represents a region of the Southern Rockies LCC that is both ecologically and economically significant. It is home to the majority of Colorados residents, including the major population centers of Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, and Colorado Springs, and provides critical ecosystem services such as clean and abundant water, wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, and aesthetic values to the rest of the state. Ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) dominated forests span the majority of the Front Range mountains and foothills, covering approximately 700,000 acres of the Front Range landscape between 5000 and 8500 ft elevation. The lower-montane zone ponderosa pine forests (~5500-7000 ft) form the...

This project will support the design and development of a large-scale aquatics monitoring program across 1.5 million acres of the Crown of the Continent, as part of a 10-year, landscape-level restoration project established and funded by the U.S. Forest Service in 2010. The Forest Service has directed each of ten Cooperative Forest Landscape Restoration Program projects to develop and implement a large-scale monitoring program to inventory current resource conditions and facilitate the short- and long-term evaluation of the effectiveness of restoration projects to inform future management strategies and actions: the work proposed here would address significant challenges associated with maintaining or improving...

Mid-winter icing events have the potential to lead to population declines of grazing caribou and to some species of small mammals due to reduced survival and reproduction associated with restricted access or lack of forage. Population-level effects of icing events remain unclear partly due to limited information on icing events in Alaska. The assessment results provide a baseline data set and remote sensing method, both of which have broad applicability, allowing the community of users to better understand the recent past, better link changes in ecological drivers and responses of wildlife populations, and aid in planning for the future.

FY2023The High Divide is a large, ecologically diverse, rural geography that demands coordinated conservation efforts from landowners, Tribal partners, NGOs, and agencies. The Landscape Conservation Design (LCD) provides a framework to coordinate management decisions and direct on-the-ground action based on partner input. The LCD process culminates in two deliverables: a spatial design and a long-term strategy design. Together, these deliverables will be available to those who live and work in the High Divide region to support conservation advocacy, planning, and funding efforts. Additionally, the spatial design will be publicly accessible for download and can be further refined to support local project prioritization....
