New England's only native rabbit, the New England cottontail, faced significant habitat loss over half a century. Its range reduced by about 86 percent to five smaller populations across New England and eastern New York. A strong partnership of state and federal biologists, private landowners, tribes, foresters, hunters, conservation organizations and others began implementing science-based conservation actions that have halted the decline and allowed the rabbit to rebound.

Oral sylvatic plague vaccine baits (SPV) and placebo baits were distributed once annually from 2013-2016 on treated and non-treated paired plots from 2013-2016. Black-tailed prairie dogs (BTPD) were live-trapped and permanently marked with passive integrated transponders and ear tags on 4 pairs of plots each year from 2013-2017 to provide capture/recapture data for use in estimating BTPD survival. The first data set (CMR_SPV_RAW_CAPTURE_DATA.csv) lists all captures and associated covariates with each line representing data from a single prairie dog. The second data set (CMR_BTPD_WEIGHTS.csv) lists the weight and associated information for each prairie dog at each handling. The third data set (CMR_FLEAS_BY_HOST.csv)...

Pacific lamprey Entosphenus tridentatus are declining in the Columbia River Basin and larval lamprey use of large, mainstem river habitats is unknown. Their use of shallow depositional areas associated with tributary inputs is equally unknown. We used a deepwater electrofisher to explore occupancy, detection, and habitat use of larval Pacific lamprey and Lampetra spp. in the lower reaches and mouths of the Klickitat, White Salmon, and Wind rivers, tributaries to Bonneville Reservoir and the Columbia River. We repeated similar work conducted in 2011. Specifically, sampling in 2011 in the White Salmon River and mouth took place prior to the breach of Condit Dam and subsequent release of sediments from Northwestern...

To enhance the chances of restoring and protecting Puerto Rico’s beaches by synthesizing guidelines and procedures on beach characterization and profiling, planting, fertilization, irrigation, maintenance, monitoring, etc. and working to identify, inventory, and prioritize beaches that need and can accommodate stabilization with vegetation, or can become sources of plants for nursery propagation and planting. Information will include all permit requirements for beach restoration projects, including those associated with beaches used by sea turtles for nesting. Within the selected prioritized beaches the CAT will develop an education & awareness program, to demonstrate benefits, address needs & expectations and promote...

Nutrient Reduction is an indicator of the Midwest Landscape Initiative’s (MLI) 2023 Midwest Conservation Blueprint. The Blueprint is a basemap of priority lands and waters for conservation across the Midwest consisting of over 20 social and environmental values representing diverse interests across society. This indicator was chosen as a targetable, important feature of the MLI goals that will be used to track conditions over time and prioritize areas for conservation. Indicators were defined through elicitation and prioritization exercises with federal and state participants. Criteria for the indicators includes 1) actionable, 2) measurable, 3) relevant to multiple groups across the region, and/or 4) representative...
