Summary

From 1988-1991, I studied desert rodent communities of the Canyon Country Province, Colorado Plateau. Study areas were located in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah and represented grassland, shrubland, and woodland habitats. I examined species richness, guild structure, body size, and microhabitat use, testing predictions based on patterns documented in other North American desert rodent faunas. Rodent assemblages were relatively simple with respect to species richness and number of taxonomic/foraging guilds. Among coexisting species, only the numerically dominant omnivores exhibited non-random body size.
