The original project to identify sinkhole locations is complete. New data concerning sinkhole locations is, however, published on geologic map products.

The present collection includes scanned images of topographic maps showing hand-plotted locations of sinkholes. These maps will serve as the basis for future derivative map products including karst hazard and sinkhole intensity maps.

There is a substantial interest in understanding the hazard potential associated with sinkholes and karst in many areas of Virginia. As development continues in the Valley and Ridge province, it is expected that the demand for this data will increase.
