Clay Sample Analyses (Virginia)

Summary

The Clay Sample Collection consists of descriptions of physical and chemical characteristics of Virginia’s potential clay resources. Field sample descriptions include physical appearance, sample interval, and location information. Laboratory analyses included geotechnical tests for plasticity, workability, dry strength, pH, bloating, and firing. For some samples there may also be laboratory results for major, minor, and trace parameters. The collection includes 870 sample records published in DGMR Publications 36, 68, 76; Bulletins 2, 13, 20; and Mineral Resources Report 2, 5, 6, 8, 12, and 13. The collection is currently accessible by visiting the DGMR office in Charlottesville, Virginia. DGMR will include the clay analyses in the online web-based Virginia Geologic Information Catalog.
