Summary

Alluvium and terrace deposits of Quaternary age, which cover an area of about 400 square miles along the North Canadian River between Canton Lake and Lake Overholser, locally yield as much as 500 gallons per minute to wells. The deposits are as much as 100 feet thick and consist of clay, silt, sand, and gravel, with sand-sized material dominating. The underlying bedrock is Permian sandstone and shale. The amount of water stored in the aquifer during 1980 was estimated to be 4.00 x 1010 cubic feet. A digital model was used to estimate the ability of the aquifer to continue to supply water for irrigation, industry, and domestic use.
