Summary

The 303(d) Listed Impaired Waters program provides impaired water data and impaired water features reflecting river segments, lakes, and estuaries designated under Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act (CWA). Purpose

The data can be used to identify distribution of impaired waters within each state for causes of impairment of interest. The attribute information provided (e.g., cause(s) of impairment, location, waterbody name) is reported by States to EPA under CWA Section 303(d), and can be associated with the geospatial information (303(d) Listed Impaired Waters NHD Indexed Dataset found at http://www.epa.gov/waters/data/downloads.html). The attribute information can be viewed via ATTAINS available at http://www.epa.gov/waters/ir or downloaded via the AskWATERS Expert Query available at http://www.epa.gov/waters/tools. Please note that a water can be identified on a State’s 303(d) list as impaired for more than one cause of impairment and be identified as having more than one probable source. Please be mindful of this information when aggregating the attributes for analysis needs.
