This article summarizes and classifies the key substantive rulings in all awards published since 1998 that relate to the international exploration and production industry, serving as an update of Doak Bishop’s groundbreaking article entitled International Arbitration of Petroleum Disputes: The Development of a Lex Petrolea. The rulings are classified primarily according to the substantive areas of dispute in order to highlight the development of legal rules adapted to the industry’s specific characteristics.
