Summary
Album caption and index card: Shinumo Creek (site 54) looking upstream. The crest of the flood (indicated by level rod) was about 5.5 feet (1.7 meters) above the creek bed and did not inundate the terraces 6 feet (1.8 m) above the bed. At this site, the flood flow cleared only the bed because the sides of the channel and the terraces were protected by dense riparian vegetation.
