Summary

San Francisco, California, Earthquake April 18, 1906. Baily's pier at Inverness on the southwest shore of Tomales Bay. Previous to the earthquake, this pier was straight. Its present form is due partly to restoration after the earthquake, but chiefly to the shifting of mud constituting the bottom of the bay. During repair, it was found that the pier had been telescoped so as to be 12 feet shorter than before the earthquake. 1906. Figure 63-B, U.S. Geological Survey Professional paper 993.
