Rockfall on eastbound lane of Interstate 70, 2 miles west of Bergen Park interchange (El Rancho). Failure was along joints (fractures) and foliation planes (layering) in Precambrian gneiss. Rockfall obstructed all of eastbound land and medium and part of westbound lane before cleanup began. Estimated weight of largest boulders exceeded 200 tons. Jefferson County, Colorado. May 8, 1973.
