Album caption and index card: Fort Fetterman, named for Lieutenant Colonel William I. Fetterman, killed at the Fort Phil Kearney massacre, December 21, 1866. Established July 19, 1867, and garrisoned by four companies of infantry. Is situated at the mouth of La Prele Creek, 135 miles north from Cheyenne, and 70 miles from Fort Laramie. Converse County, Wyoming. 1870.
