Although the deposit is undergoing dissection, it is apparent that sedimentation has occurred across a wide flat area at the lower boundary of the fan. The fence posts shown parallel the main highway through the valley, which is about 8 miles below the mountain front of the Sierra Nevada at this point. Note the dark color of the deposit.
