Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Sandstone dikes in greenstone. Outcrop is on the north side of Skyline Drive at mile 47.3 on the south side of Hawksbill Mountain. Sandstone (light gray) displays faint subhorizontal bedding. Greenstone (darker gray) displays a dark chloritic border at the edge of the dike. The knife is about 3 inches long.
