Form a panorama of Gulf fault zone on U.S. Highway 421 at Gulf, exposure on northeast side of road about 1,325 feet south of Norfolk Southern Railroad overpass. Gray and black shale of Cumnock formation cut by four faults with probable displacements of several tens of feet; main Gulf fault is 150 feet to the right of the photograph. Cumnock coal beds crops out 100 feet to the left of the area shown by the photograph and lies beneath the shale in this exposure. Chatham County, North Carolina. 1948.
