This digital map database is compiled from unpublished data and newmapping by the authors and represents the general distribution of surficialand bedrock geology in the mapped area. Together with the accompanyingpamphlet, it provides current information on the geologic structure andstratigraphy of the area. The database delineates map units that areidentified by age and lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature ofthe U.S. Geological Survey. The scale of the source maps limits the spatialresolution of the database to 1:31,680 or smaller.

The geologic map of Upper Clayhole Valley and vicinity covers part of theArizona Strip north of Grand Canyon. The map is part of a cooperativeU.S. Geological Survey, National Park Service, and Bureau of LandManagement project to provide geologic information for areas within thenewly established Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. This map fillsin one of the remaining areas where uniform quality geologic mapping wasneeded. The geologic information will be useful for future resourcemanagement studies for federal, state, and private agencies.
