Summary
A comparison of simulated MC1 historical vegetation types and EPA Kuchler potential natural vegetation types within HUC5 Watersheds in Arizona and New Mexico. Majority generalized vegetation type was determined for each HUC5 watershed from original ~ 4 km raster data. Generalized vegetation types were assigned by combining detailed MC1 vegetation classes into four general catagories: desert, grassland, shrubland, and forest. Watersheds represent 5th level (HUC5, 10-digit) hydrologic unit boundaries and were acquired from the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Majority generalized vegetation type was subsequently determined for each HUC5 watershed based on Kuchler (Kuchler, A.W. 1993) Potential Natural Vegetation data. [...]
Summary
A comparison of simulated MC1 historical vegetation types and
EPA Kuchler potential natural vegetation types within HUC5 Watersheds in Arizona and New Mexico.
The data were then integrated in order to identify differences in the majority generalized vegetation type between the simulated MC1 data and the Kuchler data.
This project was funded through the U.S. Forest Service by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and also in part by the Western Wildland Environmental Threat Center.
