Purpose

The objectives of this study were to: (1)quantify soil C stores in subalpine forests andmeadows of the northeast (dry) and southwest (wet)Olympics, (2) assess the impact of climate(precipitation regime) and vegetation on soil C,(3) examine the relationships among soilproperties and C, (4) estimate ecosystem C pools, including soils, vegetation, and woody debris insubalpine forests and meadows in the two regionsof the Olympics, and (5) predict how C storage mayshift along ecotones under a warmer climaticregime.
