Summary

The U.S. Geological Survey's Upper MidwestEnvironmental Sciences Center (UMESC) collectsaerial photography of the Upper Mississippi RiverSystem (UMRS) floodplain on a regular basis. These data are used to support the Center'slong-term goals of understanding the UMRS anddeveloping useful products for the Long TermResource Monitoring Program (LTRMP). During May1999, 1:15,000-scale true color aerial photos werecollected within Pool 8 during high waterconditions for an LTRMP project. The photos werecollected using a 60% stereo overlap betweenphotos in the same flight line and a 30% overlapbetween flight lines. Purpose

The Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Centeradministers the Long Term Resource MonitoringProgram (LTRMP), authorized under the WaterResources Development Act of 1986 (Public Law99-662). The mission of the LTRMP is to providedecision-makers with information to maintain theUpper Mississippi River System (UMRS) as a viablelarge river ecosystem given its multiple-usecharacter. The long-term goals of the Program areto understand the system, determine resourcetrends and impacts, develop managementalternatives, manage information, and developuseful products. The collection and distributionof high-resolution aerial photography aids theCenter in meeting these goals.
