Purpose

This ScienceBase Item captures essential details about a source of useful geographic areas for analysis of marine ecosystems along with data files for processing through our Spatial Feature Registry pipeline to mobilize the data and integrate them with other sources for use. An attached CSV file contains abstracts for the Large Marine Ecosystems that were extracted from PDF files ("briefs") for each LME. These were integrated into a GeoJSON form of the data for processing using an attached Python script that builds the GeoJSON from the SHP file, merges in the abstracts, and retrieves an associated identifier for access to the Ocean Biogeographic Information System. The included LMESchema.json file provides documentation on the properties and a mapping to core concepts.
