Undiscovered Resources by Province Total undiscovered resources by USGS “Province,” displayed in millions of barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). Province and AU boundaries were downloaded from the National Oil and Gas Assessment web page: http://energy.usgs.gov/OilGas/AssessmentsData/NationalOilGasAssessment.aspx#.V3WTg_krIUG Below are the links for each province. Powder River Basin Province Assessment Units (Bundled)
To get the numeric value for
total undiscovered resources by province, the five province boundaries were combined into a single table, and a field was added and populated by hand, summarizing the mean total energy from the undiscovered resources in millions of barrels of oil equivalent. Original data was downloaded in Excel form from the last link (Total Oil and Gas Resources Data Table) from:
http://energy.usgs.gov/OilGas/AssessmentsData/NationalOilGasAssessment/AssessmentUpdates.aspx
Energy Density (EPCA) layers: Original data was downloaded from here:
http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/energy/oil_and_gas/EPCA_III/EPCA_III_geodata.html For the three AUs (27, 31, and 33) with recent data, and for the “Extrapolation Model.” Data were clipped to the State of Montana boundary. A total energy density field was added to the data layer, which is calculated that from the existing files for data on Total oil density and Total gas density. Units were converted from the units in the data file (MMBOE/acre) to Thousands of BOE / sq mile to better match the EPCA published maps.
