Summary
The SECI Dashboard is a USGS hosted Web-application that interfaces partner and research community engagement with the best-available USGS science related to ecosystem services. The vision of the SECI Dashboard is to serve as the USGS platform for ecosystem services outreach and communication, and to supply data, tools, and research examples to partnering DOI bureaus and other federal agencies. Forming a community of practice, targeted users of the Dashboard range from research scientists conducting technical economic valuation studies to field-level planners with limited exposure to ecosystem services. Content within the Dashboard is designed to be flexible, showcasing the ongoing SECI pilot projects and tool development, but which can easily accommodate new projects, modelling capabilities, and data made available to USGS researchers and the public. The Dashboard will adapt and grow as USGS products and capabilities on ecosystem services expands and progresses over time.
FY15 Accomplishments
Collaboration among the SECI team to identify content, user experience, and areas of innovation for the SECI Dashboard;
Completed initial project scoping and requirements gathering which included document review, meeting participation, product owner interviews, and user interviews;
Researched existing ecosystem efforts to avoid duplication and ensure coordinated efforts/collaboration;
Designed overall SECI Dashboard architecture and content data matrix;
Determined initial hosting options for the SECI dashboard;
Released a shell initial SECI Dashboard;
Forked IBC code to create the SBCrawler (the backbone of the SECI Dashboard).
FY16 Accomplishments and Deliverables
Developed and releaseed the SECI Dashboard with improvements, features, and content as identified by the product owners;
Enhanced the SBCrawler to support searching and filtering requirements according to customized tag groups;
Implemented quality review and testing;
Product owner meetings and briefings;
Reported analytics.
FY17 Objectives
Ongoing determination and implementation of security and hosting requirements;
Continue research on other SECI Efforts to deem improvements which should be incorporated into the SECI Dashboard functionality;
User training documentation;
Quality and system documentation;
Conduct user demonstrations and training sessions;
Begin integration of tools and models into the Dashboard’s website;
Document initial user training and support needs.
FY 17 Expected Deliverables
Update Dashboard Website content based on partnering agency feedback and SECI team-member research in FY17;
Draft manuscript describing Dashboard purpose, content, methods, and initial reaction and use from partnering agencies and other users.
