Summary

Tumacácori National Historical Park (TUMA) was established in 1908 to protect, preserve, and communicate the history of the old Spanish and O’odham mission church. In 2002, Congress expanded the Park’s purpose and mission, increasing the Park’s area to include more than 1 mile of the Santa Cruz River and its associated riparian area. As part of the USGS–NPS Water-Quality Partnership, a three year investigation was conducted to provide TUMA with a better understanding of the spatial and temporal variability of Escherichia coli (E. coli) concentrations and sources within and upstream of the Park. The supplemental data release includes stream-stage datasets collected by the USGS using pressure transducers and effluent-discharge and E. [...]

Purpose

This data supplement includes stream-stage data collected from 10 locations during the investigation period, unit-value effluent-discharge data from the U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission-Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Plant (IBWC-NIWTP) during water years 2012–2016, and E. coli data collected from the IBWC-NIWTP outfall during water years 2009–2014. These datasets are used in a Scientific Investigation Report that investigates E.coli concentrations and sources in TUMA and the contributing upper Santa Cruz Watershed.
