The pilot identified as Ray Hegy is interesting as I have heard of him working for the private aerial survey industry in the 1950s but was unaware of his USGS connection in the late 1940s. Hegy was a interesting fellow, he had a business in Texas making wooden propellers for vintage aircraft and at one time he had a home-built aircraft which was considered the smallest aircraft in the world at the time - I should check but I think it is displayed in the Smithsonian."
