Summary
Album caption and index card: View of streamline body or "Bird" with nose removed to show the intricate gimbal mechanism which orients the Naval Ordnance (Laboratory - Bell Telephone Laboratories' Magnetic Detector in flight. n.d. Personal email communication from Doug Morrison on September 26, 2017, "This photograph of an airborne magnetometer sensor and its 'bird' is undated. The existing caption suggest it was a NOL-Bell Telephone Laboratories detector. I have not seen this photograph or any other of a sensor identical to that shown. It must be late 1940s or more likely early-mid 1950s. It is a later sensor to that used by the USGS in 1946 (i.e., the AN/ASQ-3A)."
