Summary

The Historic Images Collection, dating from the 1910s to 1940s, is our oldest set of photographs. It contains original large-format (mostly 3.5x5 up to 5x7) individual black-and-white negatives of our earliest fieldwork and other geologically relevant subjects. Approximately 3,000 negatives are somewhat loosely organized into 32 binders by time frame, geologist, or project. Most negatives also include a corresponding print. Each binder has index pages which give a brief description of each image, with widely varying amounts of detail. Some of the negatives, prints, and binders are deteriorating. The negatives and where necessary or prudent corresponding prints were scanned in FY2016; all items were transferred to modern archival storage [...]
