Summary

An outcrop of the Allegheny Group in the highwall at a strip mine near Athens, Athens County, Ohio. This area has shale, siltstone, sandstone, conglomerate, limestone, coal, clay and flint lithologies. Bedrock is from the Pennsylvanian Geologic Period. The photograph was taken by Pauline Smyth in 1957. Location given is approximate based on best availble information.
