Summary

The excavation site of the Orleton Farms Mastodon (Mammut americanum) in Somerford Township, Madison County, Ohio. The mastodon was discovered in November 1949 during work to install a drain tile. The image shows the mastodon's skull lying immediately underneath the drain tile, which partialy destroyed the top of the skull. The image was taken by Richard P. Goldthwait in 1951.
