Randomized Shortest Path rasters were generated to delineate potential movement corridors of dispersal for male-mediated gene flow between grizzly bear populations in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) and the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (NCDE). Major roadways with high traffic volumes may restrict movement of bears and inhibit genetic exchange between the two populations. RSP scores intersecting major transportation routes provide spatially explicit information for land managers and organizations working with private land owners to identify and prioritize strategic locations for crossing structures (i.e., underpasses and overpasses) and other conservation measures that maintain or enhance the integrity of potential areas conducive to grizzly bear movement between ecosystems.
