Summary

The data are the results of mass spectrometer experiments to measure 40Ar/39Ar ages of sanidine crystals hosted in Yellowstone rhyolites. The data were collected using a MAP216 noble gas mass spectrometer and a Nu Noblesse noble gas mass spectrometer at the USGS facility in Menlo Park, Calif.

Purpose

The data were collected to determine the age of rhyolite lava flows that preceded and postdated the caldera forming eruption of the Mesa Falls tuff. The goal of the project was to better constrain the time over which these eruptions occurred. The data can be used by future researchers who are conducting field or petrologic studies in this region of the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field.
