The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Lewis and Clark, Lower Elkhorn, Lower Loup, Lower Platte North, Lower Niobrara, Middle Niobrara, Upper Elkhorn, and the Upper Loup Natural Resources Districts, designed a study to refine the spatial and temporal discretization of a previously modeled area. This updated study focused on a 30,000-square-mile area of the High Plains aquifer and constructed regional groundwater-flow models to evaluate the effects of groundwater withdrawal on stream base flow in the Elkhorn and Loup River Basins, Nebraska. This data release contains two data sets: a shapefile and a text file. The purpose of the shapefile data set is to map the reductions to baseflow, evapotranspiration and groundwater storage as a percentage of pumpage from a hypothetical well in the Elkhorn and Loup River Basins during the 2010 through 2060 period. This data set also was published to facilitate replicability of the Phase-Three Elkhorn-Loup Model. The text file contains 2,611 water levels collected by various Natural Resources Dsitricts (NRDs) in Central Nebraska. The water levels were originally collected by the NRDs to monitor water levels within the districts. These water levels were used as calibration targets for the 1940-2010 model simulation described in the "Simulation of Groundwater Flow, 1895–2010, and Effects of Additional Groundwater Withdrawals on Future Stream Base Flow in the Elkhorn and Loup River Basins, Central Nebraska—Phase Three" report (Flynn and Stanton, 2018).
