Summary

The USGS Idaho Water Science Center (IDWSC) completed a report (citation TBD) documenting methods for alternative stream velocity measurement methods. The methods developed can be used to provide low-cost estimates of stream velocity as a component to estimate total streamflow at remote sites. This data release presents data from a laboratory assessment of alternative stream velocity measurement methods This data release includes measurement from several stream velocity methods collected in a flume laboratory as well as a summarized comparison of alternative methods and conventional methods. Velocity measurements were collected for multiple conditions in which the substrate material and the flow rate of the flume was adjusted. These [...]

Purpose

The data sets included in this data release include 1. hydraulic and substrate flow conditions in the flume during the study; 2. raw data for each alternative velocity method; 3. Actual surface and depth-average velocities in the flume during the study; and 4. the results and comparison to actual values for each alt velocity method. These data can be used to identify which alt method is most suitable for a given condition in terms of depth, flow, and substrate.
