Album caption and index card: Hebgen Lake earthquake. Damaged cabin at Lakeview Motel, along the north shore of Hebgen Lake. This cabin purchased by a private party, was constructed during the summer of 1958 and 1959. Shortly after the cabin was completed the earthquake occurred, and the north shore was inundated by the waters of Hebgen Lake. The waters can be seen in the lower lefthand corner of the photograph. The cabin began to slide into the lake. The owner, with the aid of several laborers, tediously moved the cabin back about 50 feet to higher ground where it now sits. Gallatin County, Montana. August 1959.
