Summary
Album caption and index card: Hebgen Lake earthquake. This pump at the Narrow Motel, along the north shore of Hebgen Lake, was raised approximately 8 inches above a concrete base on which it once rested by a jet of sand and water, stemming from the compacted alluvial material. The people at the Narrows Motel were subjected to the earthquake, slump cracks that opened and closed as a result of the debris moving to the lake, the movement of the seiche back and forth, and then the sand spouts. As a result, when I spoke to them that night and the next morning, they were extremely nervous. Gallatin County, Montana. August 1959,
