Schweitzer, P.N., 2019, Record quality tables for the Mineral Resources Data System: U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9DYLWMP.

Summary

The tables in this data release provide measures of quality for each of 304,643 records in the Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS) database, located at https://mrdata.usgs.gov/mrds/ describing mineral resources worldwide but focusing on those located in the United States. One table provides the measures of quality, the other provides the overall record scores that may be used to sort records by overall quality. MRDS is distributed from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in several different formats for the convenience of a variety of different users. For example a flattened version of the database is available in which the one-to-many relationships in MRDS are suppressed by combining them into a single field, resulting in a subset [...]

Purpose

Because of its size and diversity, MRDS presents a severe problem of perspective to the potential user. Thin records containing relatively little detail exist alongside much fuller records, and typical interfaces focused on geographic location or search forms had no reliable method of indicating which records might serve to summarize the character of a given deposit or operation. The practical solution to this problem presented in these data allows users to search for or display only the best records first, and to examine records of lower quality at a later stage in their analysis.
