Purpose

The data release provides a detailed digital field-verified shapefile of irrigated agricultural land-use within Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, Florida and a table summarizing the results for January 2019 through February 2021. The land-use shapefile and acreage tables produced for this study were compared to the Florida Statewide Agricultural Irrigation Demand (FSAID) Irrigated Lands Geodatabase (IGL), version VII (The Balmoral Group, 2020) totals for Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. Field-verified data on crop type, irrigated lands, and acreage summaries provide FDACS a more accurate basis for estimating current and future water demands. Details on the procedures and methodologies used for mapping and field verification in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties can be found in Marella and others (2021).
