Summary

This data release provides access to a low-altitude, aeromagnetic survey over a part of northeastern Oregon, an area centered approximately over the city of La Grande. The survey is underlain by pre-Tertiary intrusive and metamorphic rocks exposed in the Wallowa Mountains and southern Blue Mountains, and basalts of the Miocene Columbia River Basalt Group exposed or shallowly buried elsewhere. The survey spans a part of the Klamath Mountains-Blue Mountains lineament, extending southwestward from the survey area to the Oregon Coast Range. These data were acquired between June 6 and August 3, 2017, by EDCON-PRJ, Inc., working under contract to the U.S. Geological Survey. The nominal flying height was based on a best fit, pre-planned, [...]

Purpose

These data were acquired to support USGS geothermal resource investigations, sponsored in part by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and earthquake hazard studies focused on the Hite fault and its possible connection to the Wallula fault north of the survey area. A preliminary interpretation of these data is presented in Ritzinger, B., Glen, J., Peacock, J., Blakely, R., Mills, P., Staisch, L., Bennett, S., and Sherrod, B., 2018, Geothermal potential of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Oregon--evidence from detailed geophysical investigations: Geothermal Resource Council Transactions, v. 42.
