Summary
The Grand Calumet River is located east of Chicago, Illinois and flows east to west across the Indiana-Illinois border to its confluence with the Little Calumet River. In 2017, a suite of water level, temperature, and bathymetric data were collected along the Grand Calumet River. Water level and water temperature were monitored continuously at five locations in the Grand Calumet River between late February and early November 2017, using Van Essen Mini-Diver sensors. Atmospheric pressure in the area was monitored continuously during this time period using a Van Essen Mini-Diver pressure transducer. The water pressure data were compensated for variations in atmospheric pressure and converted to water levels. A bathymetric survey was [...]
A bathymetric survey was accomplished over seven days in July, August, and October 2017, using the depth-sounding capabilities of a Teledyne RDI Rio Grande Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) deployed from a canoe. The depth data were converted to bed elevations using the water level data collected with the Mini-Diver sensors in combination with water level data from two U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgaging stations (05536357 GRAND CALUMET RIVER AT HOHMAN AV AT HAMMOND, IN, and 04092677 GRAND CALUMET RIVER AT INDUSTRIAL HWY AT GARY, IN).

Purpose
The water level data were collected to examine the water surface profile of the Grand Calumet River under different flow conditions and for use in processing the bathymetric data. The bathymetric data were collected for comparison with existing bathymetric datasets of the Grand Calumet River and may be incorporated into a hydraulic model.
