Summary

Album caption: Vertical aerial view of the eastern half of the Little Kobuk Sand Dunes. The dune field at the left of the picture, in part stabilized and in part active, becomes increasingly active toward the right where it merges into the Little Kobuk Sand Dunes. On the left a series of U-shaped dunes form large parabolic ridges with long gently curved sides; in the active field they form undulating transverse ridges with ends at the edge of the field curved back to the windward. The dune-building winds are southeasterly. Kobuk district, Northern Alaska region, Alaska. 1951.
