Index No: NBM050220; Collected By: ; Sample Type: hand sample (missing); Notes: Biotite schist containing staurolite and garnet occurs along Hampton Creek. Rock contains less than 10% garnet as dark crystals less than 1/8-inch in diameter. Alluvium carries garnet weathered from schist. Garnet-bearing alluvium is about 8,000 feet long, 150 feet wide, and about 20 feet deep. Placer resource is about 0.9 mm cubic yards (about 1.2 mm tons). Garnet content of alluvium is about 1-5%. The garnet resource in the placer os about 12,000-60,000 tons. Considerably more is present in the schist, but mining costs would be high.
