Summary

The data release for the geologic and structure maps of the Kalispell 1 x 2 degrees quadrangle, Montana, and Alberta and British Columbia, is a Geologic Map Schema (GeMS)-compliant version that updates the GIS files for the geologic map published in U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-2267 (Harrison and others, 2000). The updated digital data present the attribute tables and geospatial features (lines and polygons) in the format that meets GeMS requirements. This data release presents the geologic map as shown on the plates and captured in geospatial data for the published map. Minor errors, such as mistakes in line decoration or differences between the digital data and the map image, are corrected [...]

Purpose

The purpose of the data release is to produce a Geologic Map Schema (GeMS)-compliant version for the geologic and structure maps of the Kalispell 1 x 2 degrees quadrangle, Montana, and Alberta and British Columbia, that updates the geospatial data published as part of U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-2267 (Harrison and others, 2000). Conversion and publication of the geologic map in modern GIS format (e.g. ArcInfo coverages converted to ArcGIS geodatabases) is considered to be foundational and high-priority by the Mineral Resources Program to facilitate ongoing research and other activities by USGS Mineral Resources Program pertaining to critical mineral deposits as well as to other geologic mapping, petrologic studies, and mineral resource assessments. The data reside in the National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB) distributed archive of standardized geoscience information for the nation.
