Western Yellow Rail Winter Surveys

Summary

ABSTRACT: Multiple state and federal reports have indicated concern for the western yellow rail, highlighting the need to fill critical data gaps in our knowledge of its winter distribution and habitat use. Our study would test and compare new promising survey methodologies, characterize wintering habitat for yellow rails, and link wintering rails to breeding areas for better understanding of the YERA’s full annual cycle, contributing to improved international secretive marsh bird collaboration and standardized data collection.
